hi question if there is a desereolized area that needs repairing during surgery is that billed separately? thank you

As per guidelines, if the area of repair is same where surgery is taking place (anatomical area), then this will not be billed separately. In case you have made extra efforts except than the surgical procedure (same anatomical area), then I suggest to append modifier 22 with the surgery procedure code. Modifier 22 if for Increased Procedural Services. Attach your medical record with the billing to justify the modifier. On your end check the medical record, in order to append modifier 22 to a surgical procedure, check that the physician documented the reason(s) why the work he performed was more than he typically performs, and the documentation should include any or all of the following:

-Increased intensity.

-Additional time.

-Technical difficulty.

-Severe patient condition, which causes the surgery to be difficult, dangerous to the patient, and requires additional physical and mental effort from the physician.

Hope it helps!
