Colon while on blood thinners

Selina Posted Fri 14th of September, 2018 12:36:56 PM
Hello, A patient has a scheduled colonoscopy and EGD while on blood thinners, so the polyps are not removed. They schedule a second date to repeat both after stopping meds and remove the polyps. Are both dates payable? Would a modifier be warranted? Thank you!

>There are combination codes available for Colonoscopy with polyp removal like (45385) and EGD with polyp removal (43250). The question states about the payable dates. The first date will include billing Colonoscopy and EGD and the second scheduled date, which includes colonoscopy or EGD with polypectomy then modifier 58 should be appended with the procedure. Also, you have to mention the medical necessity for scheduling the procedure again.
