Colon lipoma

Are colon and breast lipomas 88304 or 88305?

Thanks for your question. You should report both as 88304; Level III - Surgical pathology, gross and microscopic examination. Since your provider has listed this as a lipoma, the appropriate code would be 88304 and not 88305. Using 88305 would be overcoding. See the specimen listing in the procedural code manual for additional information. Hope this helps.
