cognative/sensory therapy

Jenny Posted Thu 28th of May, 2015 11:10:05 AM

do you know have any information on these types of therapy (97530-97532-97533)--is there a decent reimbursement for them, and do you have any advice regarding this type of therapy?

CPT codes 97530-97533 are used by Physical Therapists for therapeutic exercises in rehabilitation of Neuro-psychiatric patients for Functional performance improvement, cognitive skill development and Sensory integrative techniques to enhance sensory processing and promote adaptive responses to environmental demands. Usually reimbursement of 97530-97533 are slightly higher than 97110 and ideally these codes should only be used if above mentioned rehab goals need to achieve. And, if you use these codes for normal therapeutic exercises, you are actually "upcoding," a practice that could definitely attract the OIG's attention.
