For metacarpophalangeal (MCP) arthrotomy with synovial tissue biopsy, CPT 26105 is appropriate. In this, the provider makes an incision in the skin just above the metacarpophalangeal joint, dissecting down through the subcutaneous tissue to the joint capsule. He incises and opens the joint capsule. The provider explores the joint space to detect any abnormality. He then takes a biopsy of the joint tissue, like synovial tissue, for analysis. Finally, he irrigates the wound with antibiotic solution and closes the wound in layers. He may leave a drain in place if required.
Hope this helps!
