Coding for preventive shots using ICD 10 code Z23

obinna Posted Thu 01st of October, 2015 15:41:11 PM

I just realized that the ICD 10 code for prophylaxis for every vaccine is the same and that ICD 10 code is Z23.

So my question is, if your coding for 2 vaccines like pediarix and rotavirus for instance, instead of using icd code V06.8 for pediarix and icd code V04.89 for rotavirus (like with the icd 9 version) we would use icd 10 code Z23 for both pediarix and rotavirus?

Would it be something like below:

90723 (PEDIARIX) - Z23
90680 (ROTAVIRUS) - Z23

Thanks for your question. You will report any immunization as Z23, Encounter for immunization. The procedure codes will be required to identify the types of immunizations administered by the physician. Hope this helps.
