Code to use for the repair of a ureter

Maria Posted Mon 25th of August, 2014 10:59:43 AM

Hi- please help on what correct CPT to use for the repair of a ureter. Is it CPT 50900? thanks for the help.

Yes, 50900 is a correct code to be used for ureter repair.

Code 50900’s descriptor indicates it is a separate procedure, meaning that provider cannot report this code separately with a related procedure when performed in an anatomically related region through the same skin incision. If the provider performs the 50900 procedure with an unrelated procedure, you may need to append modifier 59, Distinct Procedural Service to 50900.

Thanks !!
