Closed Nasal Fracture - billing for subsequent encounters.

Lisa Posted Fri 02nd of October, 2015 11:49:07 AM

We have a patient in our office for follow up from surgery for closed fracture of nasal bones. What ICD-10 code do we use for this encounter? Our mapping tool tells us to use S02.2XXA (Fracture of nasal bones, initial encounter for closed fracture), but this is not the initial encounter. Thank you!

ICD-10-CM code S02.2XXA, should only be used when initial or active treatment is provided. But here, the provider is not providing the active initial care. So, in this case, use the appropriate ICD-10-CM code from S02.2XXD-S02.2XXK, accordingly.
