I have a patient that was referred to our office for their annual (screening) chest x-ray as part of their physical for the year. The patient's insurance, BCBS Federal, only covers screening exams. I coded the chest x-ray, 71020, with Z01.89. BCBS Federal is denying the claim saying it is not a screening diagnosis. Is this the correct diagnosis or is there one more specific.

Use CPT code 71020 with diagnose code Z00.00.
