Cath Placement / Control Neck Bleed

Nicole Posted Mon 09th of November, 2015 13:15:13 PM

The doctor did the following:

Ultrasound of Neck (CPT: 76536) and Internal Jugular Vein (CPT: 76937)
Attempted Insertion Internal Jugular Perm. Catheter (CPT: 36558 -53)
Placement Femoral Vein Catheter (CPT: 36556)
Suture of Carotid Puncture (CPT: 12001)
Manual Control of Neck Bleeding:

Not sure about the manual control of neck bleeding and if possible would like to confirm the other procedure codes.

Thanks for your question.

Your CPT choices are correct.
I have a little bit doubt on Attempted Insertion Internal Jugular Perm. Catheter (CPT: 36558 -53). As per my understanding, this should be coded with 36556, but I am not sure because, I don't have more information of operative report.

No additional code is required for manual control of neck bleeding because it is inclusive in suturing of carotid artery.
