Car Seat Study/Challenge

Gerri Posted Tue 19th of October, 2010 12:36:33 PM

I am looking for a CPT code for a infant car seat challenge/study. This is a 90 minute study wher an infant is placed in a car seat to monitor their heart rate and oxygen. I was given the code 94772 which is not applicable because it's a 12-24 hour test and also 94660 which is not applicable either because it is for a CPAP initiation and management. Can anyone help?
Thanks !

Can you please go through codes E0618 and E0619 . I wish, you will agree with me.

I consider this as apnea monitoring code which can also be applicable for preterm infant apnea monitoring as per concept of car seat challenge test.

I think these codes are apllicable for the monitor itself but not for the service? Any other thoughts?

After going through other codes, I am of opinion using 94799 (Unlisted pulmonary service or procedure). As you know, we need to bill this with proper documentation. What do you say ?

After reviewing with the Nursing staff what it is they are actually doing when they state they are performing a "Car Seat Study"...they are actually doing a pulse ox with multiple determinations so 94761 is what they should have been using all along! Thanks so much for your help!!
