Capsule placement

Tammy Posted Wed 16th of December, 2015 17:20:53 PM

When an EGD is performed for the purpose of placing a capsule in the duodemun how should it be coded? The capsule was swallowed earlier in the office setting (POS 11) and then went to the ASC where the capsule was moved from the stomach to the duodenum using a Roth net. What modifier should be added to the capsule (91110)?

Thanks for the question,

As per my understanding use modifier 78 (Unplanned Return to the Operating/Procedure Room by the Same Physician or Other Qualified Health Care Professional Following Initial Procedure for a Related Procedure During the Postoperative Period) with CPT 91110.
