C4,C5, C6 Laminoplasty with neuro monitoring

Deborah h Posted Fri 13th of March, 2015 13:38:08 PM

How is a C4-C6 Laminoplasty with neuro monitoring coded? Please make sure you indicate if neuro monitoring can be charge by the physician and what list the cpt code and modifier.

Thanks for your query.

You will code 63050 for C4, C5, C6 laminoplasty. You will issue only one code for multi-level laminoplasty.
Add on code +95940 is the CPT code used for reporting continuous intraoperative neuro monitoring for each 15 minutes. You need to check with your payor to see if reimbursement of neuromonitoring is allowed separately.

Thank you.

Per CCI edit 95940 can never be reported together with code 63050 due to CCI column 2 code edit
Add-on code, cannot be billed without a primary procedure code. Please advise.

and can the performing surgeon bill for neuro-monitoring?

SuperCoder Answered Wed 18th of March, 2015 03:26:08 AM

You cannot bill neuromonitoring for the performing surgeon as there should be a different physician other than surgeon for neuromonitoring. Surgeon should not be doing both surgery and neuromonitoring himself, it should be done by a separate physician. As per CCI edits, 95940 should be not be coded with 63050 so you should not code it separately and if coded may result in a denial.
Thank you for your insight.

Thank you!
