c-section with a sterilization

Julie Posted Tue 28th of June, 2016 09:10:16 AM
Hi - provider performed a scheduled C-section with intended sterilization. The provide wants to bill 59515 C-section w/pp care and 58700 salpingectomy, complete or partial. Would 58611 post partum ligation performed at the time of cesarean be more accurate? Provider wants 58700 because studies show removal of complete fallopian tubes reduces the risk of cancer. thanks Rene

Hi, The most appropriate code for the above mentioned scenario is CPT 59515, CPT 58611.But, one can bill CPT 58700 with CPT 59515, as there is no CCI conflict. For billing you need to check your payer's policy as both combination seems to be correct. Also, the code you suggested (CPT 58611) is correct.
