Bursa injections and trigger injections together

Melissa Posted Tue 22nd of November, 2016 12:14:25 PM
I am working with a new physician and I want to make sure we are not unbundling. He wants to code 20610-LT and 20550 x3 for the following: "Sub acromial bursa injection on the left, then injected remaining medication into the following triggers left superior nuchal line on the left, left levator scapula and left teres minor insertion. Wouldn't the 20550 be bundled since it is all on the left shoulder? Thanks

The correct codes for the above scenario will be :

Sub acromial bursa injection -- 20610

left teres minor insertion        -- 20551- XS

left superior nuchal line, left levator scapula  -- 20552 - XS.

Since the anatomical area of injection is different and appropriate modifier is appended, the codes will not be bundled.
