Bundling issue

What modifier do you use to differentiate a visit from a previous surgical visit? We performed a toe procedure on a patient and then the patient came back about a week or so later for a separate issue but when billed it was bundled with the surgical procedure and denied for that reason.

If the second visit is an E/M service unrelated to the previous surgery, but in the global period of previous surgery, the bill the present E/M service with modifier 24.

If the second visit is a surgical procedure unrelated to the previous surgery, but in the global period of previous surgery, the bill the present surgery with modifier 79. When billing with modifier 79, you need to submit the procedure with detail documentation of records.
