If both medial and lateral epicondylitis is treated for the same side, can 24359 be reported twice?
SuperCoder Answered Thu 08th of March, 2018 02:22:03 AM

It all depends on the procedure performed to treat epicondylitis. There are multiple CPT codes used for epicondylitis. Please choose the appropriate CPT code as per below:

  • 24357 - Percutaneous tenotomy
  • 24358 - Open tenotomy
  • 24359 - Open tenotomy with tendon repair or reattachment

Use 50 modifier with the appropriate CPT code for procedure performed bilaterally.

The surgeon treated both medial and lateral epicondylitis by open tenotomy on the SAME arm. Can 24359 be reported twice?
SuperCoder Answered Thu 05th of April, 2018 03:29:16 AM

Medicare Unlikely Edits (MUE) of this CPT code is 2 which means this code can be billed twice in a day. You should report CPT code 24359 with 2 units.
