Bladder biopsy (88305) verus Bladder TUR (88307)

Pam Posted Wed 25th of February, 2015 18:41:23 PM

What pathology CPT codes should be used in the following scenerio:
Request and specimens labeled "bladder biospy of left wall", bladder biopsy of right wall" and "bladder tumor of trigone"?

Hi Pam,

Thank you for the query.

In the above scenario, the pathologist should bill:

1. 88305 - Level IV - Surgical pathology, gross and microscopic examination, for urinary bladder biopsy (left or right wall).

2. 88307 - Level V - Surgical pathology, gross and microscopic examination, for urinary bladder tumor resection.

Hope, it helps.

Thanks.
