BKA Stump Debridement

Lorraine Posted Wed 03rd of April, 2019 12:14:28 PM
The surgeon documented he performed a 10 X 3 X 0.5 excisional debridement of devitalized skin and subcutaneous tissue on a right BKA stump. Would the CPT codes be 11042 and 11045?

Hello Lorraine,

Thank you for your question.

Excisional debridement is the sharp removal of tissue at the wound margin or at the wound base until viable tissue is removed.

As per the above presented documentation, appropriate CPT® code for excisional debridement of devitalized skin and subcutaneous tissue on right Below Knee Amputation (BKA) will be 11042 for the first 20 sq cm and 11045 for each additional 20 sq cm.

Thanks
