Billing trigger point injections with sciatic nerve anesthesia

Maggie Posted Wed 19th of February, 2014 15:18:19 PM

We are currently receiving denials for billing 20552 with 64445. I have tried w/ & w/o modifier 51. I checked the NCCI and found no bundling with this code. I know some carriers bundle it into 64445.

I'm not sure what version of CCI you are looking at, but the latest CCI edits lists these codes as bundled.

Code 20552 is a column 2 code for 64445 , but a modifier is allowed in order to differentiate between the services provided. When you have supporting documentation to justify reporting both codes, append the modifier to 20552. The payer might be looking for a modifier other than 51, such as 59.

I hope that helps!
