Billing for global pathology services

Davon Posted Fri 08th of November, 2013 12:26:35 PM

Our dermatology office is currently performing the technical component for pathology and we are going to hire a dermatopathologist to read the slides. He will be considered as part of our group. Is it correct to bill under a global code even though there are two different physicians performing the service?

The Dermatologist acting as surgeon would report the surgery (10,000 series) and the Derm acting as pathologist would report the global path code (80,000 series).

They can bill the global service for the pathology if all of the work is performed by physicians in the same practice. The practice must have an appropriately-CLIA licensed lab to do these services.
