billing drug screening

Tina Posted Wed 15th of October, 2014 14:15:23 PM

I have a question how do I bill drug screening CPT code G0434 for professional component. Do I bill this with number of drugs using the units or I can only bill 1 units?

Thanks for your question. G0434; Drug screen, other than chromatographic; any number of drug classes, by clia waived test or moderate complexity test, per patient encounter is only billed once per patient encounter per CPT (R) manual. On rare occasions you may have a patient with multiple drug screenings per day but you only bill G0434 once. Please see attached link for Supercoder coding alert regarding billing of G0434. Hope this helps.
