Biliary stent removal

Susan Posted Tue 18th of October, 2016 15:04:09 PM
Provider removed one stent from the biliary tree as well as stone removal by lithotripsy. I am using 43265 for the stone removals and 43275 for for the stent removal. My question is what would be the most appropriate ICD-10 dx code for the removal of the stent? Z46.59 and Z96.89 come to mind but do not know if either of these are payable as primary codes. I also thought about a removal of foreign body but do not know what code under that category would be appropriate. Please advise on dx code for the stent removal. Thank you

Hi Susan,

The most appropriate ICD-10 dx code for the removal of the stent will be Z46.59. ICD Z96.89 may or may not be used.
