Bilateral endoscopic anterior and posterior ethmoidectomies, and sphendoidotomy

Karen Posted Sat 09th of March, 2019 14:06:56 PM
I am working from a textbook with a procedure summary of bilateral endoscopic sinusotomies, anterior and posterior ethmoidectomies, and sphenoidotomy with debris removal in all sites. This procedure included a bilateral endoscopic examination of the maxillary sinus with removal of tissue and polyps. A bilateral endoscopic anterior and posterior ethmoidectomy and sphenoidotomy was also performed with debris removal in all sites. The textbook assigned CPT codes 31255-50, 31267-50, and 31288-50. With the 2018 changes applied, would this be documented differently using CPT codes introduced in 2018.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for your question.

As per the documentation provided, the assigned CPT codes are correct but please be informed that code 31288 has CCI edit with code 31255. So, code 31288 should not be reported in this case. Modifier 50 with codes 31255 and 31267 is correct.

Please feel free to write if you have any question.

Thanks
