Audiologist perform audiogram if someone just wants hearing checked

Marla Posted Thu 23rd of April, 2015 08:28:59 AM

"Can an audiologist perform a hearing test on a Medicare patient who just calls in and wants to have their hearing checked without seeing the doctor first?"

A physician order is required prior to the provision of audiology services. If a beneficiary undergoes diagnostic testing performed by an audiologist without a physician order, the tests are not covered, even if the audiologist discovers a pathologic condition.
