Our doc went into OR with patient who had already had perc access by IR. A balloon dilator was placed over stiff Glidewire under fluoroscopy so tip of the balloon was inside the calyx. He attempted to dilate the balloon bur was met with resistance. After visualizing the tract and noting the access to be through pelvis and outside collecting system. Doc aborted procedure at this point and placed nephrostomy tube. I am planning on billing 50432 for nephrostomy tube placement, but what else am i able to bill for here?

Hi Jennifer,

Since the provider had already started/attemted  PCNL  procedure, but due to some unprevailed condition he had to stop the procedure, so we can use CPT 50080 with modifier 53. CPT 50432 is correct code for nephrostomy tube placement. Thank you.
