Hi Cindy,

Please provide the anatomic area of the cyst to help you with an appropriate code. Thank you.

The cyst is located on top of the right foot. Our provider aspirated a clear fluid from the cyst utilizing an 18 gauge needle. I needed to know which biopsy CPT I should use for this type of service. As always I really appreciate your help and thank you.

Hi Cindy,

Since your provider did an aspiration and not the biopsy procedure, so there is no need to bill the biopsy code. Bill only for aspiration procedure code. Pathologist will bill for testing procedure for the biopsy sample you sent.
