Aspergillious Skin test

Deborah Posted Wed 26th of October, 2011 01:17:26 AM

What is the correct CPT code for an Aspergillious Extract skin test. I am told the Aspergillious antigen is placed on the forearm much like the TB skin test. Then they see the patient within 48 hours to see if there is a reaction to the antigen. Thank you.

CPT 87305 is the CPT for antigen aspergillus.

CPT 87305 is done by immunoassay technique using blood serum as the specimen. I am referring to a skin test - the allergen is injected just below the skin surface with a needle to determine whether or not a person has been exposed to the mold aspergillus. After 48 - 72 hours the site of injection is evaluated by a physician to determine whether a positive reaction occurred. The only code I found that seems appropriate is CPT 86486 - Unlisted antigen skin test. Does anyone have a better code to describe this service? Thank you.
