Arthroscopic trochanteric bursa resection

Cheryl Posted Thu 02nd of January, 2020 15:34:25 PM
What CPT code would be best used for the following: The doctor advanced the scope into the greater trochanteric bursa area, debrided the bursa and removed a mass that was approximately 40cm x 20cm in size. The post op diagnosis is trochanteric bursitis and hip trochanter Morel Lavelle lesion.

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

Excision; trochanteric bursa suggests code 27062. But, in this scenario the surgeon performed bursa resection arthroscopically therefore, code 29999 would be reported.

Thanks.
