Are Biopsy forceps in colonoscopy billable?

Diana Posted Thu 16th of June, 2011 23:48:36 PM

Does anyone know if there is a code specifically billed for the biopsy forceps? A peer at another facility heard they are billable.

Not ever witnessed in case of colonoscopy. If it is billed in practice, please respond the code you use, it will be a favor to many many coders.

Thank you I certainly will. I actually have a few people looking into it.

With no details about the type of bx forceps used, the code 45380 may be suitable. I am coding from the provider's perspective and not a facility.

Thank you Anna. It's billing for the actual use of the forceps, not the CPT for the colonoscopy. Personally I don't think there is such a code(HCPCS)for the facility to use for the billing of the forceps, but a colleague of mine suggested I look into it.
