Achilles Tenotomy

Maria Posted Mon 11th of February, 2019 17:28:35 PM
My surgeon released the gastroc tendon through the fascia and skin, at the gastroc musculotendinous junction. No sutures were placed to join the tendon to the soleus. Is it incorrect to refer to this procedure as "gastroc recession" (27687), should Modifier 52 be appended, or is 27606 more appropriate? Thank you.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for your question.

Since this is a limited information, we request you to please read the medical record carefully and make sure if percutaneous tenotomy of Achilles tendon if performed, then you should report code 27606 but if Gastrocnemius recession is performed via a longitudinal incision, then code 27687 should be reported.
