Can you please tell me what the appropriate CPT code would be based on the following procedure description? The coblator device was inserted into the head of each inferior turbinate and advanced, Several applications of energy were applied along the length of each turbinate, Several channels were created in each turbinate, The inferior tubinates were outfractured using a Boise elevator. Findings Inferior turbinate hypertrophy.

As per the above provided documentation, the appropriate code will be CPT® code 30801- Ablation, soft tissue of inferior turbinates, unilateral or bilateral, any method (eg, electrocautery, radiofrequency ablation, or tissue volume reduction); superficial


Note: The underlying difference between 30801 and 30802 is that 30802 enters the submucosa and shrinks the inferior turbinate. 30801 involves a reduction of the size of the inferior turbinate in a more superficial manner and does not enter the submucosal soft tissue.


Since, the above documentation does not indicate the ablation of the deeper mucosal soft tissue, appropriate choice of code will be CPT® code 30801
