If a patient is admitted by the ER physician on 9/9 and a hospitalist see the patient on 9/10 at 4:43am and another hospitalist see the patient and discharge the patient on 9/10 4:50pm. Can you use code 99235 for the hospitalist?

Yes, the hospitalist can bill for 99235 (Observation or inpatient hospital care, for the evaluation and management of a patient including admission and discharge on the same date).

As the Hospitalist saw and examined the patient and the ER physician did not, only the Hospitalist should bill 99235.
