92250 verses 92227 and 92228 vlr

Lina Posted Tue 13th of October, 2015 17:37:11 PM

We are doing fundus photography in the physicians office only on our diabetic patients to check for Diabetic retinopathy. We were told by the vendor that sold us the machine and service that we should bill 92250 since we are performing the eye test and images are being sent to a diabetic retinopathy physician to read. We are getting information from local optometrist that we should be billing code 92227 or 92228. Can you please help me understand if we are doing this correctly? We own the Fundus camera, it is housed in the office and test is performed by a trained tech. the images are going directly via a secure connection to the retina doctor to read. HELP!
