CPT 87661is mentioned as an female code however in Lay terms of the CPT description it is mentioned as - The lab analyst performs all technical steps to analyze the specimen for the protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. The specimen may be from any source but most commonly is a urogenital swab; examples include a penile discharge swab or a vaginal swab. Need confirmation can we use this CPT for MALE PATIENTS

Hi Apurva,

The specimen for the test commonly taken from urogenital area by Vaginal or Penile swab, hence this code is applicable for both the genders. However, female symbol is not applicable for this code.

Thank you!
