CPT code 82542 describes column chromatography/mass spectrometry (eg, GC/MS, or HPLC/MS), non-drug analyte not elsewhere specified; quantitative, single stationary and mobile phase -- which represents a single analyte.

You can bill 1 unit of CPT 82542 for each analyte, But Medically Unlikely Edit (MUE) of this code is 6. So you can bill 6 units of this code in a billed Date of service.

The following criteria to bill the no. of units is:-
1.User needs to report 6 units, if there were 6 specimens,
2.User needs to report 1 unit, if 6 analytes were tested in a specimen, and
3.User needs to report 6 units, if each analyte tested in each of the 6 specimen.
