What is the best dx code for 80101 that's "required for drug management" when billed for pain management? V58.69 was used and denied.

Thank you for your reply. What if the test is performed to check ANY level of a certain drug with no definitive dependency noted? Would V58.83 be correct?

Yes, but you would need to select an additional code per ICD9 guidelines from the range below if the patient is currently on therapeutic drug use.

Use additional code for any associated long-term (current) drug use (V58.61-V58.69)
