77290 with modifier 22

Vicky Posted Wed 24th of April, 2013 20:40:02 PM

Can we bill 77290 with modifier 22 when we use 4D simulation to account for respirtory movement when the patient breaths which takes longer planning?

A lot of payers have rules that modifier 22 use is limited to codes with a global period, and 77290 doesn’t have a global period. For instance see www.wpsmedicare.com/part_b/resources/modifiers/modifier-22.shtml and www.noridianmedicare.com/provider/updates/docs/Modifier_22_form_instructions.pdf%3f
For relatively new technology, the best bet is to check with the payer whether they consider an existing code appropriate or prefer the use of an unlisted procedure code.
