When doing a fistula gram 36147 should we be billing a X-RAY EXAM OF FISTULA as well 76080?

SuperCoder Answered Mon 29th of June, 2015 00:13:56 AM

76080 is for Radiologic examination, abscess, fistula or sinus tract study, radiological supervision and interpretation. It is not related to Fistulogram studies. CPT 76080 should be used when there is an abscess in sinuses and pathological fistula. 36147 is for therapeutic arteriovenous shunt created for dialysis (graft/fistula). These 2 procedures are not related.

So if the fistula is abscess should this be charged?

SuperCoder Answered Tue 30th of June, 2015 01:13:49 AM

CPT 36147 includes all necessary imaging studies performed during the procedure. No need to bill CPT 76080 along with it. Also, as i mentioned in my post above, these 2 procedures are different from each other. CPT 76080 is for radiological supervision and interpretation of pathological fistula example: vasico-vaginal fistula, etc.
