Can codes 65820 and 65920 be billed together? Do I need to apply modifier 59?

Hi Marina,

Thanks for your question.

Modifier 59 should be reported when documentation indicates two separate procedures performed on the same day by the same physician, which are not normally reported together, but appropriately billable under the circumstances. Also there should be CCI edit between codes for these procedures and modifier indicator should be 1, which means modifier is allowed. in that case 59 should be reported.

But in this case, there is no CCI edit between CPT codes 65920 and 65820. So modifier 59 is not required. You may bill both these codes without modifier 59.

Please feel free to write if you have any question.

Thanks.
