SMR of the turbs performed as follows: body of turb was reduced w/ the RF device, 3 passes with 3 lesions per pass, on both lt and rt . turbs were them outfractured. An incision was made in the head of the turb. microdebrider was used to remove submucosal tissue and bone from anterior 1/3 of turb preserving the mucosa. this was done on the right and left .

Hi Barbara,

As per above documentation the correct code for SMR of the tubinates will be CPT 30140. Since the provider has made incision and removed submucosal tissue and bone from anterior 1/3 of turbinate, the code includes removal of portion of bony turbinate. Where as in code 30802 only excessive or hypertrophied mucosa is cauterized or ablated and may be excised. Please feel free to ask for any further query. Thank you.
