COULD YOU HELP ME UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CPT CODE 27096 AND 64451?
SuperCoder Answered Thu 27th of February, 2020 03:49:45 AM

Hi Pauline,

Thanks for your question.

Here are the differences:

  1. Code 27096 is reported when the procedure is performed on musculoskeletal system, whereas code 64451 is reported when procedure is performed on nervous system.
  2. Code 27096 is reported for injection performed in the sacroiliac joint, whereas code 64451 is reported for injection performed in the nerves innervating sacroiliac joint.

Report one unit of 27096 for injection given in the sacroiliac joint. Report one unit of 64451 for any number of nerves innervating the sacroiliac joint, regardless of the number of injections.

Please feel free to write if you have any question.

Thanks.
