10060 vs 10061

Maiu Posted Thu 08th of December, 2011 10:46:10 AM

Is 10060 for abscess drainage without packing and 10061 for abscess drainage with packing, or what is the main difference between those codes?

Can 10061 be used for rib abscess drainage with iodoform packing?

In both codes, surgeon may leaves the wound open to allow for continued drainage or place a gauze strip for the same. The main difference between two codes are, code 10060 is I&D for a single cyst, whereas, code 10061 is I&D for complex or multiple cysts.
If I&D is performed for thorax along with partial rib ostectomy, you could code 21502. Need more documentation to reach exact code.
