Reader Questions: How to Code Laparoscopic Ablation

- Published on Mon, Nov 10, 2008
Question: How should I report a laparoscopic cauterization/ablation of peritoneal endometriosis? The ob-gyn performed it at the same time as a cholecystectomy. Delaware Subscriber Answer: You should report 58662 (Laparoscopy, surgical; with fulgration or excision of lesions of the ovary, pelvic viscera, or peritoneal surface by any method).  Heads up: If your physician is not the one doing the cholecystectomy (laparoscopically), you must add modifier 52 (Reduced services) to 58662. Code 58662 includes putting in and taking out the scope
