ICD 10 Coding Alert

Coding Tools:

Speed Through CAD Coding Using This Clip-and-Save Table

Choose vessel and angina pectoris status to find your code.

More than a year may have passed since we switched to ICD-10-CM, bringing combination codes for Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) and angina pectoris, but that doesn’t mean scanning through all the new options to find the code that packs in everything for your patient has gotten easier.

The table below will help you pinpoint the code you need from more than 35 options.

Rows: In the left column, choose the row for the vessel with atherosclerosis. Choose from these options:

  • Native coronary artery
  • Native coronary artery of transplanted heart
  • Bypass graft of coronary artery of transplanted heart
  • Coronary artery bypass graft(s), unspecified
  • Other coronary artery bypass graft(s)
  • Autologous vein coronary artery bypass graft(s)
  • Autologous artery coronary artery bypass graft(s)
  • Nonautologous biological coronary artery bypass graft(s).

Columns: On the top row, choose the column that matches the documentation for angina pectoris:

  • Without (NOS)
  • Unstable
  • With documented spasm
  • Other
  • Unspecified.

Additional codes: Check the notes under the table to be sure you’re aware of the “use additional code” notes that apply to the code you’re reporting.
