  1. I HAVE A PATIENT WHO WAS Admitted for 23 observation secondary to RUQ pain, known history of cholelithiasis. She was admitted 1213 on 1/3/12 and ended up delivering at 1626 on 1/4/12. I would like to bill for the day prior to delivery since it was more than 24 hours and she was not being admitted for induction. Would this be an obv code or an admit inpatient code '9922x'?

  2. Use observation code 99218-99220 since that is the status the physician admitted he to as you indicated "Admitted for 23 observation" on 1/3 and the delivery was on the following date and the admission was not for induction.
