According to Medicare, an NPP can report her services as nonphysician assistant-at-surgery through the use of modifier 'AS' with the surgery code. The NPP should use his/her NPI for submitting the claim. The NPP is paid 80% of the of the actual charge or 85% of the physician's fee schedule amount for a physician assistant at surgery, which ever is less. A physician as assistant at surgery is entitled to recieve 16% of the amount under the physician fee schedule. So the NPP would be receiving 85% of 16%, i.e. 13.6% of the physician fee schedule amount.
