  1. May I bill using '96101' for simple inventories/checklists like Beck "tests." I give the patients 5-6 of these on their first visit. Never mind if the "testing" itself is appropriate, the "tests" take approximately 10-30 minutes to administer in total. May I bill using '96101' 5-6 times on each visit?

  2. No, 96101 is per hour of testing. So you would report 1 unit of 96101 for 1 hour of testing. Time guidelines allow you to report 96101 when a minimum of 31 minutes is provided.

  3. Would it be appropriate to use this code for Beck or other inventories? May a technician administer the inventory? Would it be appropriate for the patient to be given the inventory by a receptionist to be filled out in the waiting room (without a psychologist present) by the patient?

  4. Your answer was very helpful.
