We are a multi-speciality group with our own pathology department. We are currently performing and billing HPV-HR testing and billing CPT-4 code 87621.
We are planning to perform HPV 16/18 and report the same CPT-4 code 87621, following the given carrier guidelines, which states HPV 16/18 is to be performed on Non-Medicare patients with Negative Pap Smears, and Positive HPV-HR.
Now my question is should we code (87621 X 2) twice for the HPV 16/18, on the same patient specimen for the same day?
