  1. Happy Friday!

    Im working on a patient who has been diagnosed with "Splenic Vein Thrombosis"

    The doctor thinks 289.59 is sufficient - I explained to him that this is for the organ - not the vein issue.

    I did find however, a code that appears to be more appropriate though: 444.89

    Thoughts?

  2. 444.89 (Arterial embolism and thrombosis, Of other specified artery) is a code for "arterial thrombosis". But the documentation says vein thrombosis (splenic). So the nearest code could be 453.79, or 453.89 based on the acute or chronic condition of the Dx.
